We’ve got great news – the season is on! We just received communication from Dr. Grant Nesbit of MSD Lawrence Township that we may begin our season as soon as we see fit. League Commissioners will be working with coaches to create practice and game schedules.
Please expect communication from your coaches within the next week on next steps and safety protocols, but we wanted to share the good news as soon as we received it.
See you at the ballpark soon!
Everything is still on track to start practicing on 7/1, the soonest tht the Indiana Department of Education allows activities on school properties. Registration is open and we are currently accepting players to the waitlist for all leagues. Once we get closer to July and we are sure nothing will change, the waitlisted players will be added to rosters. For more information, see our registration page here: http://www.skilestest.com/Site/News/Id/48861
We hope you are doing well & staying safe. As state and local government agencies, including the Department of Education, continue to make plans for the summer, we’ve been discussing how best to proceed with our 2020 baseball and softball season plans as well. We remain cautiously optimistic we can facilitate a season.
We feel the best way to do this is to set a firm “go/no go” date for the season start. Our firm “go/no go” Opening Day is July 11th. Our plan is to begin practice July 1st and start games on July 11th. Our season would end in late August. Before July 1st, we will be sending out instructional videos to help players prepare for the season.
If we cannot start by July 11th, we will have to cancel the 2020 season. We will continue to actively monitor updates and take advice from medical experts as it relates to COVID-19, specifically related to our timeline outlined above. We will maintain alignment with the recommendations of MSDLT leadership as well. Our Board has taken this obligation seriously, and we continue to put the health of players, families and volunteers first. We will continue to update you as we receive more information from state and local governments, particularly as we approach our season’s start.
In the meantime, please be well and enjoy Spring!
We hope you are healthy and doing well. We wanted to send a quick message to let you know that we are aware of Governor Holcomb’s plan for the next couple months, and more specifically, with his intent on being able to start league sports June 14th. We are going to convene early this week to decide what this means for our season so we can communicate potential plans to you as quickly as possible. We’ll send out another message by the end of the week if not sooner.
We hope you are healthy and doing well. Since the Skiles Test 2020 Baseball/Softball season Opening Day was originally scheduled for today, we felt it was time to send a league update.
The board continues to monitor COVID-19, and its impact on our local community. Since our fields are owned by MSDLT, we are maintaining communication with Lawrence Township leadership in regards to their specific directives and guidance. Per previous league communication sent in March, all formal league activity has been delayed until at least May 2nd. This delay of activity will remain in effect until our board and MSDLT receive authorization from local government and health professionals that it is safe to resume baseball/softball activity.
The board is still very hopeful we can salvage a season for 2020. The current contingency plan target 1st games to be played sometime between May 9th – June 6th. The end of that start date window will put us in position to wrap up tournament play no later than July 18th. We will pass along any information we have in regards to season start and/or cancellation as soon as we are able, and we will do our best to allow for at least a few weeks’ worth of notice if we do in fact have a season, in order to give families the time to absorb the impact of the adjusted calendar. Please expect more communication from us as we get closer to May 9th.
Be well in the meantime. We look forward to seeing you at the ballpark soon!
Due to Governor Holcomb’s announcement made on March 19 in regards to all Indiana K-12 schools being closed until at least May 1st, and in accordance with Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township, the Skiles Test Baseball and Softball Board will pause league activities until May 1st.
Despite this delay to the season, the Board is planning and prepared to move forward with a league schedule as follows:
• Saturday, May 2nd – pre-season practice schedule commences
• Saturday, May 9th – regular season game schedule commences
• Saturday, June 27th – Tournament Championship games
The Board will continue to monitor the effect COVID-19 has on our community and adhere to recommendations of our local government and school officials. If league activity cannot commence on May 2nd, the Board has a schedule contingency plan developed to accommodate the season scenario to end by July 18th in order to preserve summer vacation time and allow for fall sport preparation.
The Board will send updates on changes that affect the schedule plans as more information comes in. We hope everyone is safe & healthy and we are looking forward to seeing you and your players at the fields as soon as possible.
